Abstract

This study employs data collection, statistical analysis, and result evaluation through online questionnaires for Vietnamese youth to understand their reception and evaluation of Vietnamese film remakes from Korean originals. The findings indicate that Vietnamese youth show a moderate level of interest in these remakes. They typically watch the original Korean films before viewing the Vietnamese remakes, and the time they spend on remakes is comparable to the originals. The assessment of quality and interest levels among young audiences towards the remakes is also moderate. There are both positive and negative feedbacks regarding the quality, plot, acting, and setting of the remakes. Young audiences appreciate the localization efforts, especially elements that resonate with Vietnamese culture, the actors' passionate performances, and improvements in plot and dialogue. However, some opinions highlight a lack of creativity and originality in the remake ones, while others commend the ability to create novelty and a sense of familiarity to domestic viewers. The study also offers several recommendations to enhance the quality of film remakes in the Vietnamese market.
