Abstract
Shinto, as Japan's indigenous religion, has an undeniable influence on waka - this country's traditional poetic form. For Shin Kokin Wakashu - one of the three most important poetry anthologies of Japanese waka, that influence is shown through the appearance of 64 Shinto poems. Through studying these 64 poems, this article has pointed out some of their characteristics in both topic content and poetic form, thereby providing an overview of Shinto poetry in Shin Kokin Wakashu.
