Some influencing factors of social work activities at Dak To District Health Center, Kon Tum province in 2019

Abstract

Objectives: To understand some influencing factors of social work activities at the Dak To District Health Center in 2019. Methods: Descriptive study, applying qualitative research method. Main findings: There were legal documents defining the development strategy of social work but the specific instructions for implementation was still missing. There were also lack of guidelines for staffing and capacity standards for social workers in hospital. Especially in small-scale hospitals, limited of human resource prevented social assistance services from being provided continually. In-depth training for basic knowledge about social work for health workers was limited because lack of documents guiding the implementation of specific activities and no training programs, materials in the hospital on social work. Social work services have not been provided in hospitals. Conclusions: For the Ministry of Health, it is necessary to complete the legal guidances on staff and structure of professional titles for social work in hospitals; development competency standards for social workers at health facilities and programs and training materials on social work for different subjects in the hospital. For district health centers, it is necessary to assign specialized staff of social work; organizing intensive training on social work for social workers; deployment basic knowledge and skills training on social work to coordinate the implementation of activities.
