Abstract

Objective: Describe knowledge, attitudes and practice of drowning prevention of students at Nguyen Van Huyen Secondary School, Hoai Duc District, Hanoi City in 2020. Method: Cross-sectional description, quantitative research. Research and interview 779 students of Nguyen Van Huyen middle school, Hoai Duc, Hanoi from October 2019 to May 2020. Results: Among 779 children, the average score of knowledge reached 28.02 points (SD: 9.57). In which, the child with the highest score reached 44 points and the lowest was 3 points. Further analysis shows that: up to 65,1% of students do not have good knowledge about drowning prevention. In terms of first aid when meeting someone who drowns, only 33,5% of children said they knew when asked. Regarding the assessment of children's attitudes towards drowning prevention, up to 10,9% of students do not have a good attitude. The average score of children's attitudes about drowning prevention is 3.09 points (SD: 0.68). The proportion of children who cannot swim is 41,9%. Regarding swimming cramps, up to 25,4% of children have ever experienced it and of these, 16,5% still struggled and struggled to relieve pain and 4,4% did not know how to handle it. Conclusion: Schools should organize surgical activities for students about drowning prevention. Families should let children participate in swimming classes, limit children to participate in water-related activities alone.
