Social work activities at some central hospitals in Hanoi
Abstract
Objective: To describe the situation of social work activities at some central hospitals in Hanoi. Methodology: Cross-sectional descriptive study design, in combination with qualitative and quantitative methodology. Research subjects: patients, family members of patients, social workers, medical staff and department/division managers; From February to December, 2018 at 3 hospitals: Bach Mai Hospital, National Hospital of Pediatrics and Tan Trieu K Hospital. Results: The study showed that different social activities had been implemented in hospitals to support patients during medical examination and treatment, and when they were discharged from hospital and returned home. Some activities were carried out regularly, continuously and effectively. Some other activities had not been paid sufficient attention and inadequatelly performed with low effectiveness. Conclusions and recommendations: Social work at central hospitals in Hanoi is still in the early stages of formation and development. The Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Health should have documents to guide social work pepartments in hospitals to improve the professionalism and effectiveness of social work activities. Training institutions of social work force for hospitals need to update the content of the training program and strengthen the guidance on practical skills for students.
