Some activities of protecting and enforcing the sovereignty of sea and islands in Minh Mang dynasty (1820-1840)

Abstract

Summary: During the time of the reign from 1820 to 1840, Minh Mang continued expending into many activities of protecting and enforcing the sovereignty of sea and islands, such as patrolling, saving from danger, protesting sea-rovers, measuring tide, painting map, putting boundary-marks, building sovereignty steles, building system of sea-posts, fortresses. It’s confirmed that these activities not only express the strategy view of sea, but it’s a bold stamp of Minh Mang in the cause of protecting and enforcing the sovereignty of sea and islands in the first half of the XIX century.
