The influence of China’s autocracy to Korea’s feudal government (from the second half of the 1st century to the beginning of the 20th century)
Abstract
Abstract: Korea is one of the Asian countries in the influence periphery of Chinese culture - one of the longest continuous civilizations in human history. Thus, Korean’s feudal dynasty slowly and creatively acquired Chinese culture, including the autocracy system, which is also know as the absolute monarchy. In this kind of government system, a single person - the king, exercises lordship over a polity. This paper will focus on how China’s autocracy affected Korea feudal government in terms of government operation, Confucian ideology and values, and agrarian models. Thereby, the article asserts that although simulating many elements from China, Korea’s feudal government still reflect traditional values and preserve its own imprint of the national culture when compared to other countries in the region.
