Status of climate change adaptation - a case study of Quang Ngai province
Abstract
There has been many Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) activities in Vietnam. However, the effectiveness of these activities has not been evaluated adequately so that they can be adjusted or replicated systematically. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of implemented CCA activities, it is necessary to assess current status of CCA for each location. This paper presents results of a research on developing a set of CCA status assessment indicators. This set includes three indicators which are natural environment resilience, climate change vulnerablity and climate change risk mitigation. A case study was carried out for Quang Ngai province to support a comprehensive assessment of CCA activities, the effectiveness of investment resources allocation and vulnerability to identify appropriate policies. The results show that investment resources for adaptation activities in Quang Ngai should be prioritized for Quang Ngai city and other districts such as Son Tinh, Tu Nghia, Mo Duc, Duc Pho and Ly Son island.
