DEVELOPMENT OF THE SUPPORT FLOOD FORECASTING SYSTEM ON THE BASIS OF DEFLT FEWS FOR MA RIVER BASIN

Abstract

Flood forecasting is one of the essential tasks to minimize flood damage. With the development of hydrometeorology, more and more data sources can be exploited for flood forecasting, and at the same time, hydrological and hydraulic modelling tools are increasingly diversified and advanced. However, the problem in flood forecasting is that there needs to be proper technology to optimise those strengths. This paper introduces the DELFT FEWS flood forecasting support system, allowing flexible adaptation to diverse requirements in terms of data types and models. At the same time, the system provide forecasters with an intuitive, easy-to-follow results display interface. This system has been applied at many international forecasting centres and initially applied in Viet Nam. Finally, this study illustrates a pilot application for the Ma River basin and some user points to note.
