Abstract

The change in intensity and shape of the East Asian Subtropical Jet Stream (SJT) is related to the formation and development of low and high pressures on the ground. This affects the weather and climate systems of East Asia and Viet Nam, so an analysis of the operational characteristics of SJT is essential. The analysis results showed the seasonal variation in the position and intensity of the SJT. In winter, the average position of the SJT axis is located at 25 - 35 oN, with westerly wind speeds near the axis of about 50 - 60 m/s, in some places greater than 70 m/s at the 200 mb level. From winter to summer, the average position of the SJT axis shifts to the North, the average position of the SJT axis is around 40 - 45 oN with the average wind speed falling lower than that in winter at the 200 mb level.
