Need of assistance among of people with disabilities in actitivities of daily living and social integration
Abstract
According to WHO, the proportion of people with disabilities (PWD) accounts for 10% of the population and 1.5% of the population need rehabilitation services. Currently, the number of researches on the need for assistance in activities of daily living (ADLs) and social intergation for PWD is very limited. The purpose of this study is to find the need for assistance in ADLs and social intergration of PWDs by region, age, sex, incidence and types of disability. This cross-sectional study was conducted on 2,318 PWDs in eight communes in Ha Noi, Hai Phong, Ha Tay, Nam Dinh, which represent different geographic areas of the Red River Delta. The results showed that the rate of PWDs who needed assistance in ADLs was 9.3% and in social integration was 59.1%; in which the proportion of PWDs who need assistance in social activities was between 40% and 50%. Age, sex, incidence, and type of disabilities affected in both ADLs and social intergration. The study suggested that factors limiting the participation of PWDs at work and in social activities need to be explored in order to identify solutions to assist PWDs to integrate better into the community.
