Current status of organizational structure, human resource and job satisfaction of health workers at district preventive medicine centers, Da Nang city.

Abstract

This study, with cross- sectional, descriptive design and a combination of quantitative and qualitative methods, was conducted at 07 district preventive medicine centers, Da Nang city, to aim at assessing the current status of organizational structure and health human resource, job satisfaction and relation to the planned work of health workers at district preventive medicine centers. Study findings are as follows: Human resource for preventive medicine activities is in a critical shortage. Staffing of district preventive medicine centers reaches only 50 to 84.4% of the target according to Circular No. 08/2007. The number of staff in most district preventive medicine centers is smaller than the assigned number while distribution of staff among different divisions is not appropriate. Among the factors for evaluation of job satisfaction, only relationships with colleagues to achieve high satisfaction rate (61.3%). The remaining factors achieve quite low levels of satisfaction: Relationship with the District Health Office - 30.1%; Income level - 22.6%; physical facilities and equipment - 23.7%. However, the majority of informants plan to continue working in the district preventive medicine centers (69.2%), and some of them hope to pursue further education to improve their professionalism (20,4%). There is no association between satisfaction of job-related factors (income level, physical facilities and equipment, colleague relationship) and planned work (p>0.05).
