Abstract

Stress and its causes are apparent to people's daily life. Working environment is one of the factors leading to stress. Not many studies have been conducted on work stress in Viet Nam. This study was conducted at the Hanoi School of Public Health (HSPH) with the aim to identify prevalence of and factors associated with work stress among lecturers and staffs of HSPH. This descriptive study in combination of both quantitative and qualitative methods was conducted among 123 lecturers and staffs. Epi Data 3.1 and SPSS 20 software were used to manage and analyze quantitative data. Qualitative information was analyzed based on themes. The results show that 27.6% of the lecturers and staffs had stress at different levels. Factors associated with work stress were "Work and responsibility", "School's assessment, acknowledgement and reward", "Assessments from students", and "Self-assessment". HSPH should have mechanisms to acknowledge and reward lecturers and staffs as well as to assign a workload appropriate to their abilities and responsibilities in order to create a friendly environment and well-being for staffs and lecturers.
