Factors associated to knowledge, attitude, behavior on sexual activity of students at Phu Tho Medical College, 2014

Abstract

Premarital sex and unprotected sexual intercourse has been paid more attention in Vietnam. Some recent studies show that a potential risk of HIV infection, sexual transmitted diseases and bortion due to unsafe sexual attitude among students have been increased. This cross - sectional study was conducted at Phu Thoï medical college, Phu Thoï Province, Viet Nam in 2014 among 845 students with an aim at finding actutal status and some factors associating to sexual knowledge, attitude and behavior of students in 2014. The results of study show that knowledge of students about safe sexual intercourse is not so high, openned premarital sexual attitude can be seen in a number of students. The rate of premarital sexual intercourse mong students is 29.1% (42% male, 19.5% femal), 25.8% male students have sexual intercourse with prostitute, 2.6% of male students have homosexual activity. The rate of students using condom during sexual intercouse with their partner and prostitute occupies 25% and 56.4% consecutively. It associates to the rate of STDs (9.7%) and unexpected pregnancy (13%). The result of logistic regression analysis shows some factors associating to sexual behavior such as age, gender, living place, knowledge, watching pornographic film, friends, who have sexual intercourse. The necessary solutions should be done such as strengthening safety sexual knowledge and practice, conducting annual STDs screening for students to prevent HIV transmission, STDs among students.
