The stress situation of nurses and midwives at Da Nang Hospital for Women and Children in 2014
Abstract
As health care providers, nurses and midwives in hospital are obliged to work during day and night to cater for needs of sick people, face with many risks of infection, negative reaction of the patient and patient's family, patient's death. Therefore, the nursing profession is increasingly characterized by occupational stress. This study aims to identify the stress situation and associated factors of nurses and midwives at Da Nang hospital for women and children in 2014. A cross-sectional survey was conducted with the participation of 370 nurses and midwives. The questionnaire included 2 main parts: Lovibond's DASS 21 scale and associated factors. The data was entered by Epi Data and analyzed by SPSS. The prevalence of regular stress of subjects was 18.1%. Multivariate logistic regression analysis identified 3 factors associated with stress including the degree of job stability, the area of workplace, relations with leaders. To solve this, hospital should have suitable plans to help workers who have been suffering from stress by some activities, such as: arranging the stable job for workers, allocating work area of employees with more space, increasing communication among medical staff together through the supportive activities and extracurricular meetings.
