CURRENT SITUATION OF ALCOHOL USE AMONG MALE 15-60 YEARS OLD IN NINH HIEP COMMUNE – GIA LAM DISTRICT – HA NOI CITY 2014

Abstract

This is a cross-sectional descriptive study combined quantitative and qualitative aimed to describe the current status of alcohol use in men aged 15-60 in Ninh Hiep commune, Gia Lam district, Ha noi city. A sample of 272 males aged 15-60 in the province of Ninh Hiep be selected using systematic random sampling method. The study was carried out from November 2013 to May 2014.

The study results show that a high proportion of alcohol use among male aged 15-60 years old. The proportion of alcohol use within the past 1 year is 87.1% and alcohol use last week is 66.9%. Three percents (3%) of male was identified as alcohol dependence. The average age started drinking beer was 17.9 ± 2.72. About 26% of male drink beer daily. Average alcohol intake per day is 3-4 standard units of alcohol. Type or drinking alcohol: Alcohol cook / craft beer production (67.3%). Most people usually use alcohol to drink at home: 61.1%. And usually drink with friends /workmate: 63.3%.

The study contributes to a clearer description of the actual use of alcohol as well as supporting information for policy making helps to reduce the harm of alcohol locally.
