The situation of food poisoning in Hanoi city from 2010 to 2014
Abstract
Results from retrospective analysis of food poisoning cases recorded for 5 consecutive years in HaNoi city from 01/2010 to 12/2014 by Hanoi Food Authority show that there were 13 episodesof food poisoning, with 204 infected persons, 185 hospitalized persons and one death. Occurrence of food poisoning cases was mainly found in family meals (5/13 cases – 38,5%) and wedding parties (5/13 cases – 38,5%). The causes of food poisoning were due to microbial infection (3/13 cases- accounted for 23%), contamination of chemicals (2/12 cases – accounted for 15%, and unidentified causes (7/13 cases – accounted for 54%). There was no food samples for testing in 8 out of 13 poisoning cases. The food poisoning occurrence in Hanoi had a correlation with eating toad meat, round sticky ricecake, etc.
