Knowledge, attitude, practice on hand hygiene and related factors health workers at Hoe Nhai hospital in 2015

Abstract

      Cross-sectional descriptive study combined quantitative and qualitative method of calculation was conducted on 87 doctors, nurses from January to September 2015 at 6 clinical departments of Hoe Nhai Hospital, Hanoi. Self-administered questionnaire and method patterns fill participant observation using a checklist is used to describe the knowledge, attitudes, practices and related factors to hand hygiene routine. Depth interviews and focus group discussions aimed at providing in-depth information, more details about the factors related to compliance, non-compliance procedures for routine hand washing of health workers direct health care for the sick in hospitals.

The study results found factors related to incorrect knowledge on routine hand washing such the age of health workers (over 30 years), the gender factor (male) related to poor attitude. Study results found significant correlation between compliance statistics for routine hand washing by medical staff with the attitude factor. Group health workers have a positive attitude does not comply 2,7 times higher than those of health workers have a positive attitude.

Main recommendation of the study was the hospital should strengthen communication and supervising in order to improve knowledge and compliance on routine hand washing for health workers in focus on group of males and above 30 years old health staff.
