Abstract

Research was conducted to design monitoring methods with a sample size of 2064 participants who have used alcohol/beer that were selected identified using the IAC definition of the study of alcohol control International cooperation (IAC) in 3 provinces Vietnam: Thai Binh, Khanh Hoa and Dong Thap in the period from 2013 to 2015. Research was conducted to measure the consumption of alcohol and analyze behavioral characteristics of alcohol use in Vietnam.

The study results showed that the average alcohol consumption in the first year of drinkering was only 12.44 liters of pure alcohol. In which men consumed 13.44 liters and women consumed 2.38 liters. The largest amount of alcohol consumed was among the 25-34 age group who consumed   15.76 liters. . The amount of alcohol consumed in 1 man's typical, popular drink was 8 units of alcohol (ĐVR) and women drank less than 2 units of alcohol. Locations of alcohol use are common beer stalls/eateries (37%) with a volume of about 3 ĐVR and 23% in restaurants/street food venders with an estimated 1.5 ĐVR. One needed only to commute about 5-10 minutes to be able to buy alcohol (63%) and up to 9/10 of the respondents said they felt alcohol is easily available to them.

The results of the study contribute to providing additional evidence of alcohol use to support policy making and help to reduce the harmful effects of alcohol abuse as was stated in the Prime Minister’s National Policy Prevention and harm of alcohol abuse of 2020, Decision 244/QD-TTg, on February 2014.
