Abstract
A cross-sectional study was conducted during January to May 2016 among 235 mothers who had children aged 4 to 12 weeks in O Cho Dua ward, Dong Da district of Ha Noi. Data was collected using both face to face interviews and self-administered structured questionnaire. The objectives of the paper are to document the rate of mother's postpartum depression and describe associated factors of postpartum depression. The descriptive and multivariate regression models were used for data analysis. Results showed that 30,2% of mothers suffered from postpartum depression. There were 11 factors associated with mother's postpartum depression in bivariate analysis model. Four factors significantly associated with mother's postpartum depression in multivariate model were found. The protective factor was mother receiving the support during day time (OR = 3,8), the risk factors for postpartum depression were: difficulties in feeding their baby, bad couple relationship (OR = 3,3) and pressure on baby's gender (OR = 3,1). The study highlighted the need of sharing and support mothers. Besides, it is necessary to promote media programs to reduce the pressure on baby's gender among postpartum mothers.
