Quality of life of elderly people in Tien Hai district, Thai Binh province and Thanh Binh district, Dong Thap province in 2018

Abstract

A cross-sectional survey of factors associated with quality of life (QOL) was conducted from June to September in 2018 in Tien Hai district, Thai Binh province and Thanh Binh district, Dong Thap province.The objectives were:To assess the status of the QOL of the elderly in Tien Hai and Thanh Binh districts; To determine factors associated to the quality of life of the elderly people in Tien Hai and Thanh Binh districts. The sample size was 160 older people. The questionnaire used in the study was WHOQOL 100 which has been validated in terms of validity and reliability in Vietnam. Findings showed that the QOL of the elderly people in the 2 study sites ranked as good, however, the QOL of the elderly living in Tien Hai district is better than those living in Thanh Binh district (p = 0.03), especially in terms of economic aspect. There were association between QOL score and age, education level, previous occupation, current occupation, illness status in the past month and had chronic diseases.
