Abstract

Control of vectors and domestic pests using insecticides is still a common approach, but can pose a great risk to people health, the environment and can increase pesticide resistance levels. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 2017 with the sample size of 302 householders to describe the current situation and to identify some factors related to the use of aerosol pesticides in two wards of Bac Giang City. The results showed that 33.5% of householders sprayed aerosol pesticides once per month and from three to four times per year, and 47.1% of the participants sprayed once to twice per week. 55.6% of the respondents did not follow the instructions. 30-40% did not isolate people / pets and cover up food when spraying aerosol pesticides and 41.4% used the remaining amount of pesticides to spray the plant, spray at other neighboring houses or throw in rubbish bins. Age, occupation, place of purchasing the insecticides, use of non-chemical methods and access to information were statistically significant related to the practices of the studied participants. It is important to communicate and guide the community in Bac Giang City in safe using pesticides in and around the home.
