Adherence to drug treatment in hypertensive patients who is managed at the General Hospital of Cam Khe District, Phu Tho province, 2015-2016

Abstract

     Objective: To investigate the compliance to drug therapy in hypertensive patients in Cam Khe district hospital in Phu Tho province from 2015 to 2016 and some related factors. Methods: Descriptive study design including review of patient records and direct interviews were performed for 263 primary idiopathic hypertension patients who received inpatient drug therapy for identifying dose, engaged in periodical examination over 12 months. Information collected includes personal characteristics, compliance levels, knowledge of hypertension. Result: 45,6% of patients very regularly used medicine and 47,1% of patients regularly used medicine as prescribed. Compliance is higher in men, in people with regular income from wages, in people with better awareness of hypertension. Conclusion: Compliance rates for drug therapy for hypertension are low. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the awareness of patients, support appropriate solutions for people without stable income. At the same time, find out why women are less compliant in order to propose interventions based on identified causes.
