An overview of policy development and implementation and research programs on Vietnamese Elderly
Abstract
The 20th century and early years of 21st century have seen a revolution of longevity connecting to a fast drop of birth rate and resulting in an increased proportion of senior citizens in the whole population. "Population Ageing" is a global issues, having impacts to all nations, especially developing countries such as Viet Nam. In this article, the authors will try to find out, read, summarize and analyze documents related to policy development process for the elderly in Viet Nam, the synchronousness and completeness of policies and factors related to care of the elderly, and conducted scientific researches on the elderly, from which gaps could be identified. This is a step required by any process prior to conducting further steps scientifically and confidently. The findings would also serve as basis to generate recommendations for improvement in developing policies for the elderly care and response for rapid population ageing in Viet Nam.
