SITUATION OF MEDICAL WASTE MANAGEMENT AT RURAL DISTRICT HOSPITALS OF HAIPHONG CITY IN 2013
Abstract
This is a cross-sectional study carried out in 7 rural district hospitals in Haiphong city. Data was collected through filling a checklist on medical waste management activities. Results show that 100% of hospitals having assigned a specific unit to be in charge of waste management;having medical waste source registration, book of waste emission monitoring; 71,4% have regular monitoring reports. However, medical waste management activities did not fully respectthe regulations such as: 100% don’t have waste management plan, or waste emission permission, neither person in charge of waste management. Hospitals don’t have a unified administrative document on waste management; the proportion of trained staffs on waste management is low (59,4%). Materials for containing, transporting and remaining waste did not comply with the required standards. Liquid waste was not treated. These issues require Haiphong health sector elaborating a plan to supervise medical waste management activities in rural district hospitals.
