Factors affecting students' choice of information management major

Abstract

    Opting for the right major offers students a great deal of advantages during their studies and post-graduation. The Faculty of Library and Information Science, University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, launched their Information Management bachelor's degree program in 2019. For the purpose of improving enrollment, a survey was administered to ascertain the factors that affect students' decision to take up Information Management as their major following four enrollments from 2019 to 2022. The survey results revealed that students' major selection is impacted by four sets of factors including educational factors, informational factors, economic factors and other factors such as the University's reputation and geographical location, students' interests and capabilities, and the learning experiences of their acquaintances. The admissions process for the Information Management major should take into account these factors.
