Sociology in the control of zoonotic diseases

  • NGUYỄN THỊ DIỄN

Abstract

Zoonotic diseases pose major global health threats due to their potential to trigger pandemics if not properly managed. The emergence of zoonotic diseases is a complex process believed to be driven by epidemiological, ecological, and social factors operating at different levels. In recent years, the One Health approach, which emphasises the interdependence of human, animal and environmental health, and encourages interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral collaboration in the prevention and control of zoonotic diseases, has gained prominence. This article outlines some contributions of sociology to the study of production practices and social factors associated with zoonotic diseases. It also highlights the role of sociology in shaping public health policies, communication strategies, and community engagement efforts aimed at raising awareness of zoonotic diseases and promoting behavioral change.
