Abstract

This study employs a combination of both qualitative and quantitative methods, in which the quantitative research is based on data collected from 450 directly affected households in the Nghi Son Economic Zone, Le Mon Industrial Park and Tay Bac Ga Industrial Park in Thanh Hoa province. The findings describe the current state of economic conflict between enterprises and local communities, which is clearly reflected through issues such as rising living costs, soil pollution, loss of traditional income sources and old jobs. The main contributing factors include inadequate compensation for land acquisition, escalating living expenses, and challenges related to employment and livelihoods. In response, local people primarily rely on their own efforts and social networks, while the role of formal support institutions remains limited. Drawing on the research findings from the perspectives of affected local residents, the article provides policy recommendations aimed at resolving conflicts, harmoning interests among sides, and promoting sustainable local development.
