The contribution of Sociology to the building of strong Vietnamese families in the Doi Moi period from practice of the Institute for Human, Family and Gender Studies

Abstract

Building strong Vietnamese families has been an important goal of the Communist Party and the State of Vietnam. With its strengths in analysing family-related issues, the sociology has made various contributions to achieving this goal. Through an analysis of publications and practical activities at the the Institute for Family and Gender Studies (now merged into the Institute for Human, Family and Gender Studies under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences) over the past nearly four decades, the article outlights some contributions of researchers at the Institute to the building of strong Vietnamese families from specific research findings. These contributions are examined through aspects of approaches and methods of family sociology research, providing scientific agurments for policy consultation, and disseminating family-related knowledge to the public consultation, and disseminating family-related knowledge to the public.
