The Vietnamese diaspora: Development dynamics, integration challenges and policy implications
Abstract
Based on secondary resources, the article analyses the transnational characteristics of the overseas Vietnamese community (OVC) and clarifies the drivers and barriers in harnessing its potential in the context of globalization. The OVC is an inseparable part of the Vietnamese nation; it constitutes an important transnational resource, simultaneously integrating into host societies while contributing to the home country’s economic development, investment, and culture. Through the transfer of knowledge, economic resources, and financial investment, the OVC serves as an active force of development, while also requiring support to strengthen cohesion, preserve Vietnamese cultural identity, and achieve sustainable integration. The article proposes several policy implications and research directions aimed at maximizing the potential of the OVC and contributing to the sustainable development of the nation.
