Abstract

The use of social networks has increasingly become an essential part of human life. However, uncontrolled usage and dependence on social media platforms heighten the risk of mental disorder symptoms among young people, including university students. Through an online survey using a Google form with 383 students from Da Lat University, preliminary research results indicate that frequent use of social media platforms leads to dependence and negative feelings among students. Furthermore, dependence on social networks and negative feelings exacerbate mental health problems (anxiety, depression, stress) among students. These findings pose many policy implications for students themselves, educational institutions and families in control social netwwork usage. Simultaneously, these results open up numerous avenues for more specialised research in the future.
