Some contemporary theoretical perspectives on fertility
Abstract
In the course of studying the demographic transition worldwide from the mid-20th century to the present, various theoretical perspectives on fertility have been developed, disseminated, and effectively applied. The article selects and summarises 11 modern theoretical perspectives on fertility from diverse approaches, including those that are quite new and unfamiliar among existing studies in Vietnam. Considering the appropriate and flexible application of these theories in sociological research on reproductive behaviours is necessary and highly promising, contributing to explaining the dynamics of fertility in Vietnam and its influencing factors in the context of industrialisation and modernisation, towards building and implementing more effective fertility-adjustment policies, in line with Vietnam’s sustainable development goals in the new period.
