CHINA'S "SPONGE CITY" MODEL AND POLICY IMPLICATIONS FOR VIETNAM

Abstract

Abstract: In the context of rapid urbanization and climate change,
which are increasing the risks of flooding and environmental degradation,
China has implemented the "sponge city" model as a sustainable urban
planning strategy. This model aims to control flooding, enhance climate
resilience, and restore the balance of urban ecosystems. This article
provides an overview of the “sponge city” and examines its practical
performance in Shanghai. Thus, the study specifies the achievements and
challenges of this model in Shanghai and proposes valuable lessons for
Vietnam in its pursuit of sustainable urban development
