Abstract

The suspension system has the role of regulating and quenching the vibrations
in the car. An active suspension system has more effective vibration control than a
conventional passive suspension system. In this study, the authors propose to use
the Hybrid PID algorithm to control a quarter model of the automobile suspension
system. Unlike the traditional PID algorithm, the hybrid algorithm can flexibly adjust
the coefficients kP, kI, and kD according to specific vibration conditions. The simulation
is performed in the MATLAB-Simulink environment with three cases corresponding
to the three types of pavement excitation. According to the calculation results, the
displacement and acceleration values of the vehicle body (including the maximum
value and the average value) have decreased significantly when applying the hybrid
algorithm. The Hybrid PID algorithm ensures better oscillation efficiency than
conventional linear control algorithms.
