Some suggestions related to teaching and learning English in the age of artificial intelligence

Abstract

In English teaching and learning, artificial intelligence has specific applications related to speaking skills, writing skills, reading skills, pedagogy, and self-regulation. Based on the results of consulting foreign language lecturers in Vietnam about the benefits, disadvantages and their suggestions when using Chat GPT in foreign language teaching in particular and in teaching and research in general, the article offers suggestions related to the following specific contents: Regarding lesson planning using Chat GPT in higher education; Regarding the use of Chat GPT in learning and teaching activities in higher education while still ensuring academic integrity; Regarding student competence assessment.
