Abstract

Lasal hill is located near the beach of Nha Trang city and mostly belongs to Nha Trang university. Since 1933, it has been extensively renovated that the plant system changed a lot from the original. Thus, there’s a need to identify plant species to systematize and create data for conservation, embellishment and landscape development of Lasal hill in general, Nha Trang University in particular, as well as for education and research. Using the method of classification by morphology, a result of 151 species of 124 genus, 51 families, 28 orders, 4 classes of 3 divisions was obtained. Most of them (149/151 species, respectively to 98.67%) were in the division of Maglinophyta. Only 40.4% of species were native to Vietnam, while 59.6% were introduced, which suggested an active role of human in modifying the original plant system. Most of observed species were horticultural or medicinally potential plants. 7 species were in the Red List of IUCN (2020) or Vietnam (2007), especially 4 native species including Sindora siamensis Teijsm. ex Miq. var. siamensis (gõ mật), Barringtonia asiatica (L.) Kurz (fish-killer tree, bàng vuông), Hopea odorata Roxb. (ironwood, sao đen) and Dipterocarpus alatus Roxb ex. G.Don (hairy-leafed apitong, dầu rái). The results supported for the diversity of plant species in Lasal hill as well as their high potential for ornamental, medicinal or conservation
