Abstract

A capillary breakup extensional rheometer (CaBER) is a device designed to measure the extensional viscosity of polymers based on the principles of a CaBER. The design incorporates readily available components such as a quick-acting push-pull coil and an electronic microscope. The ImageJ software is used to collect data on the changes in the diameter of a liquid droplet from a series of sequentially captured images obtained using the electronic microscope. In this study, the authors utilized polyethylene oxide (PEO15) as a test material for measurements with the designed extensional viscosity measuring device. The results demonstrated that the designed extensional viscosity measuring device could qualitatively describe the extensional process and estimate the extensional viscosity of the polymer.
