Hung Yen folklore represents a culturally rich and distinctive body of heritage that reflects the historical depth and spiritual life of the local community, formed from three traditional cultural regions: Son Nam, Hai Duong, and Kinh Bac. With more than 4,000 narrative and lyrical units encompassing various genres—such as folk songs, children’s rhymes, trong quan singing, xam singing, instrumental chants, legends, fairy tales, humorous stories, anecdotes, proverbs, riddles, and traditional performing arts including cheo and puppetry—the folklore of Hung Yen is both diverse and uniquely characteristic. Over centuries, this body of folklore has served as a vital channel for preserving, transmitting, and nurturing patriotic and revolutionary traditions within the local community. By examining these values, the article highlights the role of folklore as an important educational resource in fostering patriotic consciousness and revolutionary ideals among the younger generation in Hung Yen.
