Key amendments to the Law on Amendments and Supplements to the Vietnamese Nationality Law

Abstract

On June 24, 2025, the 15th National Assembly passed the Law Amending and Supplementing a Number of Articles of the Law on Vietnamese Nationality (Law No. 79/2025/QH15), eff ective July 1, 2025. The amended law introduces signifi cant changes to regulations on naturalization, restoration, and modifi cation of nationality, as well as provisions concerning children's nationality. It also adds new content regarding the relationship between individuals' nationality and the State while advancing administrative procedure reforms. These amendments aim to safeguard national sovereignty and interests, uphold human rights, reinforce humanitarian policies, strengthen connections with overseas Vietnamese, and attract global resources. Additionally, the law promotes the modernization of nationality management through digital technology, enhancing transparency and administrative effi ciency. This paper analyzes the key amendments and their legal and practical implications.
