Thanh Tuyen Festival – Local cultural resources in sustainable tourism development in Tuyen Quang
Abstract
The Thanh Tuyen Festival is one of the most unique festivals in Vietnam, deeply reflecting the cultural identity of Tuyen Quang Province with its giant, colorful lantern models, creatively crafted and paraded by local residents. It is not only an occasion to preserve and promote traditional cultural values but also an opportunity to showcase the image of Tuyen Quang to both domestic and international visitors. The festival significantly contributes to the local socio-economic development, especially in the fields of accommodation, food services, and handicrafts. The harmonious blend of tradition and modern creativity has turned the festival into a valuable cultural asset, supporting the strategy for sustainable tourism development. This article analyzes the cultural and social values of the festival and proposes several solutions, including: enhancing communication and promotion efforts, developing unique tourism products associated with the festival, improving event organization capacity, and strengthening collaboration among stakeholders. These solutions ensure a balance between cultural preservation and economic growth, helping position Tuyen Quang as an attractive destination on Vietnam’s tourism map.
