echnology transfer through foreign direct investment in Vietnam
Abstract
Foreign direct investment (FDI) plays a crucial role in the economic growth and development of Vietnam, specifically by making significant contributions to the state budget, enhancing labor productivity, increasing competitiveness and creating spillover effects from transferred technology and knowledge. This has positively impacted the growth of enterprises, localities receiving FDI in particular and Vietnam's economic development in general. However, up to now, Vietnam has traditionally focused more on the scale of attracting FDI rather than the technology acquired from these projects. This has led to the fact that machinery and technology from FDI are often outdated, causing environmental pollution and adversely
affecting public health. This article examines the current state of technology transfer from FDI projects in Vietnam, explains the reasons why FDI technology has not been given due attention and finally proposes solutions to develop technology and promote FDI technology transfer in Vietnam.
