Musical features of the tay ethnic minority’s new then singing in Quang Ninh province

Abstract
The Tay ethnic community in Quang Ninh, like other localities across the country, also has Then singing melodies with its own characteristics. There are two forms of Then singing, namely: (1) Ancient Then (a type of Then used in religious rituals) and (2) New Then (the Then singing form created, modified, and put in new lyrics so as to adapt to contemporary social life). This article delves into the New Then singing of the Tay ethnic group in Quang Ninh by analyzing musical components such as: musical structure, scale, melody lines, and rhythm. By doing so, the research would conclude the musical characteristics of the New Then singing genre of the Tay ethnic group in Quang Ninh.
