An investigation into the current situation and some solutions for reducing plastic waste in dormitories at Ha Long University

Abstract

In this study, 45 samples of plastic waste disposal were collected at Ha Long University's dormitory (Unit 1) from 10/01/2022 to 14/01/2022 (5 days) to determine the composition and weight of the garbage. The study found that the amount of plastic waste in 45 dormitory rooms is 14,93 kg. Because students frequently use canned, instant products, which increase the consumption of plastic containers such as: bottles, milk tea glasses, straw, bags, etc. the plastic waste deposition from students in dormitories is 0.046 – 0,053 kg/person/day. The management and collection of plastic waste disposal at Ha Long University is much more limited, and it is critical to separate plastic at the source. This study will suggest some administrative and supportive solutions to reduce plastic waste in dormitories in particular and Ha Long University in general.
