Abstract

The Tra Co Communal House in Mong Cai, Quang Ninh province, is a remnant with exceptional historical, cultural, architectural, and artistic value in the system of Vietnamese communal houses. On the basis of the study of numerous sources, and by a historical and interdisciplinary approach, the article focuses on analyzing the historical context, the formation and development of the Northeast coast, Van Don trading port, and the strategic location of Hai Ninh, Van Ninh, An Bang, and Yen Quang regions. In addition to serving the three essential purposes of a communal house in Vietnam, Tra Co Communal House also exhibits unique architectural characteristics of marine residents in the best areas of the nation. Many historical and cultural values can be found in the horizontal lacquered board, couplets, ordination, and mythology about gods and historical figures who are revolutionary contributors. Tra Co Festival demonstrates various unique characteristics of time, space, and rituals associated with the original values and the cause of fighting foreign invaders. Tra Co Communal House is a historical and cultural landmark that contributes to the affirmation of Vietnam's sovereignty and cultural identity.
