Vietnam's sea and island cultural space: Elements and characteristics

Abstract

Looking back at the division of regional cultures in Vietnam, from the concept of maritime culture, the author of the article divides Vietnamese culture into three cultural spaces: the cultural space of the mountainous and midland regions, the cultural space of the delta and plain regions, and the cultural space of the sea and island regions. From there, the author initially presents the elements of the cultural space of Vietnamese sea and island regions, including: literature, plastic arts, performing arts, indigenous knowledge, festivals and faiths; and at the same time, presents the characteristics of the cultural space of Vietnamese sea and island regions: attached to the lives of fishermen, showing attachment to the Vietnamese sea and islands, the attitude of preserving the territory and national sovereignty over the sea and islands. On that basis, the author expressed his ideas on protecting and promoting the value of the cultural space of Vietnamese sea and island regions.
