Establishing, managing and developing the certification mark for Thai Binh mangrove forest honey
Abstract
Thai Binh Mangrove Forest Honey is a local product originating from the communes of Thuy Truong, Thuy Xuan, Thuy Hai, Thai Thuong, and Thai Do in Thai Thuy district and the communes of Nam Thinh, Nam Hung, and Nam Phu in Tien Hai district, Thai Binh province. In 2024, the Department of Intellectual Property of Vietnam granted a Certification Mark for “Thai Binh Mangrove Forest Honey”, owned by the Sub-department of Agricultural, Forestry and Fishery Quality Assurance of Thai Binh Province. “Thai Binh Mangrove Forest Honey” is protected as a certification mark and is supported by local authorities at all levels in carrying out legal procedures, building and supervising exploitation activities to promote efficiency. This paper analyzes and evaluates the feasibility of registering the certification mark “Thai Binh Mangrove Forest Honey” under the provisions of the Intellectual Property Law of 2005 (amended and supplemented in 2009, 2019, and 2022). Based on some difficulties in the process of registering and protecting the certification mark “Thai Binh Mangrove Forest Honey”, the author proposes some solutions to improve the registration and protection process of the certification mark, as well as the effective management and development of this trademark, thereby promoting the potential value of the intellectual property associated with the elements of local specialties of Vietnam.
