Abstract

Between 2010 and 2025, Vietnam-China trade relations experienced remarkable expansion in both scale and quality. One of the key drivers of this development was the series of high-level meetings and official visits exchanged between leaders of the two Parties, States, Governments, and National Assemblies. Dozens of such visits provided a stable political foundation, expanded dialogue channels, and helped remove numerous trade barriers. These high-level diplomatic exchanges served as a “catalyst” that advanced the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between the two countries in more substantive and effective ways. Vietnam emerged as China’s largest trading partner within ASEAN, while China remained Vietnam’s leading partner. Despite lingering differences, high-level diplomacy functioned as a “safety valve” ensuring stability in bilateral relations, sustaining robust trade growth, and creating favorable conditions for the signing of new economic cooperation agreements.
