Developing knowledge economy in Vietnam

Abstract

In the context of extensive globalization, the knowledge economy
(KE) is spreading more and more strongly. For Vietnam, the market economy opens
up great opportunities in the process of industrialization, modernization, and toward
to socialism. If Vietnam knows how to take advantage of this opportunity, Vietnam
will seize the opportunity, thereby shorten the development gap with developed
countries in the world. The XI Congress of the Communist Party of Vietnam affirmed:
“Industrialization and modernization are associated with the development of the KE”
and outlined a clearer roadmap for “promoting and using the most effective knowledge
resources” of Vietnamese people and exploitation of the human knowledge. Formulate
and implement a roadmap for the development of the KE to 2020”. The article clarifies
the concept and characteristics of the KE, the current state of the KE in Vietnam, and
proposes some oriented solutions for the development of the KE in Vietnam.
