The night-time economy: Theory, international experience and lessons for Vietnam

Abstract

Currently, the development of the “night-time economy” has
become an inevitable trend of economies around the world. Beijing is the leading
city in “lighting up” the night-time economy. This model is promoted not only in
China; some European and American countries have also developed the “night-time
economy” to promote jobs, as well as contribute to taxes. In the European Union
(EU), most major cities have a developed “night-time economy”, especially tourist
cities, which are most visited by tourists, such as Paris, Geneva, Zurich, London,
Manchester, Amsterdam, etc. Major cities around the world have earned billions of
dollars from the night-time economy that greatly has contributed to the economic
growth of those cities/countries. To be able to keep up with the current global trend,
Vietnam also needs to develop the night-time economy. The article introduces the
basic theory of night-time economy, experiences of some countries on developing
night-time economy, thereby draws lessons for Vietnam.
