Abstract

Organochlorine pesticides are toxic chemicals that can cause cancer. Most of these chemicals can be dissolved in fat so they accumulate in the environment such as fish species. In Thua Thien Hue province, Cau Hai lagoon receives water from the river, mountains, runoff wastewater so that organochlorine pesticides can be accumulated into the lagoon and accumulated in some fish species. Gas chromatography – mass spectrometry method was used to analyse organochlorine pesticides in some fish species such as Parapocryptes serperaster, Terapon jarbua, Moolgarda pedaraki, Acanthopagrus berda in Cau Hai lagoon, Thua Thien Hue province. In general, the majority of toxic chemical compounds were less than the limit of detection of the analytical method. However, the results also showed that some pesticides existed in fish samples such as α-HCH, β-HCH, δ-HCH, heptachlor, aldrin and p,p'-DDT. The study results have scientific and practical significance as an important basis for sustainable use of aquatic resources and food safety.
